Nonviolence (ahimsa) and courage walk hand in hand. It is in our DNA to enter a defensive, protective mode when faced with something beyond our understanding… and in these fearful moments, subtle or not-so-subtle violence erupts. The thread of violence can nearly always be traced back to a tangled mass of fear. It’s one thing to confront fear. It’s another thing to become its observer. Dig into it. Seek to understand it. Begin to unwind it. Yet when we unwind the fear, seek understanding, and ground ourselves compassion, we find ourselves free to walk the road of Ahimsa. They are brave souls… they who tread the path of peace.
